Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Jakarta administration plans to relocate the Jakarta Institute of the Arts (IKJ) to the city’s Old Town heritage district in West Jakarta, Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo announced on Saturday (18/10/2025).

“Heritage areas like this need creative talents and artists who can directly perform and bring life to the space,” he said during his visit to the Old Town, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Governor Pramono believes the relocation will give students broader opportunities to express their creativity while integrating arts and culture into Jakarta’s historic center.

The governor added that with support from both local and central governments, IKJ could grow into a more dynamic and internationally recognized arts institution.

He also confirmed plans to improve infrastructure and develop a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) system around the Old Town area. The relocation is expected to take place between 2027 and 2029, coinciding with the completion of the city’s new MRT line.
