“We are already conducting investigations, and even without the UN’s request, the government has taken necessary steps,” Deputy Minister for Human Rights Mugiyanto said after visiting a protest victim in Makassar, South Sulawesi on Thursday (4/9/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
He cited the case of Affan Kurniawan, a 21-year-old raid-hailing taxi driver killed by a police tactical vehicle, stressing that disciplinary action and dismissal had been enforced against officers involved. The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is also monitoring developments.
Deputy Minister Mugiyanto noted that Indonesia upholds international standards, including the ICCPR, and is ready to defend its record before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
