inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian National Police (INP) and Indonesian National Military (TNI) personnel were deployed to secure the Wamena road that connects Jayawijaya - Kelila Regency, and Central Papua Regency, after it was cut off by a landslide.
Central Mamberamo Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Mukabsi, stated that the Kelila-Wamena road access was cut off by a landslide that occurred after heavy rains in the area on Sunday (2/15/2026) evening.
The landslide occurred in Onggobalo Village, damaging several sections of the road leading to districts in Central Mamberamo Regency, such as Eragayam and Bokondini.
A security team led by the Kelila Sector Police Chief, Ridwan Kharie, identified at least five landslides, making the road impassable for vehicles.
"We have identified the affected areas and are coordinating with the local government. We hope these can be addressed immediately to prevent further impacts on the community," explained Mukabsi.
He stated that if the damage to the road is not addressed immediately, it could potentially lead to an increase in the price of basic necessities due to transportation constraints.
A joint security team is ready to assist in the evacuation of landslide material and the opening of emergency roads to expedite the restoration of public mobility.
The public is advised to remain vigilant, given the continued high rainfall intensity and the potential for further landslides.
"Hopefully, infrastructure restoration measures will be taken soon, ensuring the smooth distribution of logistics to the community," said the Police Chief.
