inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) commended the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police for handling hundreds of students involved in a demonstration in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building.

KPAI saw that the handling was deemed to have been in accordance with procedures and still considered children's rights.

"The detained children also informed us that they could eat, drink, and rest. But they admitted that they were quite tired," said KPAI Commissioner Sylvana Maria Apituley to reporters on Tuesday (8/26/2025).

Sylvana said that her team had been coordinating with the police since early morning to watch over the students' condition. She appreciated the officers' treatment of the children, but regretted that many students, even junior high school students, were still provoked by calls for demonstrations via social media.

"The number is quite large, there are 196 children. Most of them joined because of invitations from friends or social media, without understanding what was really happening. This certainly robs them of their study time and future," he explained.

Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Superintendent Ade Ary Syam Indradi, revealed that of the total 351 people arrested, 155 were adults and 196 were minors. The students were arrested on suspicion of being involved in vandalizing public facilities, throwing stones at motorists on the toll road, and attacking officers.

"They are suspected of massively vandalizing public facilities, then throwing stones at motorists on the toll road, endangering road users, and then attacking officers," said Ade Ary.

From the results of the examination, seven people tested positive for drugs. They are all adults and are currently undergoing further examination.
