Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The General Elections Commission (KPU) has revoked its decision that classified 16 documents required for presidential and vice-presidential candidacy as restricted public information.
The reversal came after intense criticism from civil society and legal experts, who argued the rule undermined transparency.
“We have institutionally decided to annul KPU Decision No. 731 of 2025, which excluded the registration documents of presidential and vice-presidential candidates from public access,” KPU Chairman Afifuddin said on Tuesday (16/9/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
He explained that the commission consulted with the Central Information Commission (KIP) before deciding. He noted that the initial regulation was drafted with reference to the Election Law, the Public Information Disclosure, and the Personal Data Protection.
The KPU also acknowledged public input delivered through social media, describing it as part of democratic participation.
