Kupang Sub-regional City Police urged people, particularly those who supported certain election candidates, to not celebrate their victory excessively by parading in the street. “I emphasized that those are prohibited by law,” said Kupang Sub-regional City Police, Senior Superintendent Aldinan R.J.H Manurung quoted from Antara on Thursday (2/15/2024). The statement came after there was a convoy by several people who said that they are from one of the election-candidate supporters. They were celebrating their victory after they saw the quick-count results who showed that their favorite candidate won. “We have warned them not to hold a parade or convoy as it disturbs public order and comfort and could incite riots and conflict with other candidates supporters,” said the police chief. Moreover, the police chief also states that based on monitoring results, the election voting process in Kupang city went smoothly and peacefully without any issue. Although, there are some slight issue due to miscommunication in several polling stations which have been resolved through mediation. Aldinan hopes that the people of East Nusa Tenggara, particularly Kupang City to maintain the election conduciveness until the process is completely over. The Sub-regional City Police also reminds that their common goal is to succeeding the election process in Indonesia, especially Kupang. (ad/ay/pr/nm)
