inp.polri.go.id – Labuan Bajo. Parade of Nations in the main streets of Labuan Bajo city to celebrate the 58th International Association of Women Police (IAWP), which opened on Sunday, November 7, 2021, was warmly welcomed by the people watching in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara province (NTT).
This significant event is an honour for Indonesia because of the status of the first Asian host country since the foundation of the organisation in 1915. However, due to the pandemic, the conference, planned to be held in Yogyakarta in September 2020, was postponed to be November 6-12, 2021, in Labuan Bajo. The selection of Labuan Bajo as the conference venue is to support the "Ten New Bali" programme, in which Labuan Bajo is designated to be the super-priority tourist object.
Suherman, one of Labuan Bajo residents, said that he is an enthusiast of watching the welcoming of the IAWP guests when the parade is commenced. "Yes. I am happy. Moreover, this event is held in Labuan Bajo, and we can see Policewomen from other countries", Suherman said.
Meanwhile, a Labuan Bajo child named Dita, who watched the parade, said she was happy to see the event, where the drum band from the Ignatius Loyola Catholic High School was on fire.
"I am delighted to see Policewomen from other countries in my hometown", she said.
On separate occasions, Chief of International Relations Division of Indonesian National Police, Police Inspector General Johni Asadoma, to reporters in Labuan Bajo, said that 39 people from 13 countries have arrived in Labuan Bajo to attend the 58th IAWP Conference.
