These are Hot Issues Discussed in the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Conference in Labuan Bajo

inp.polri.go.id – West Manggarai. 691 participants from 38 countries attends the 58th International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Conference in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on November 6-11, 2021.

IAWP Committee Chairman, Police Brigadier General Juansih, stated that this moment is an honour for Indonesia as the first Asian host country since the association was established in 1915.

"As per the bidding results in Quito, Ecuador, in 2019, Indonesian National Police are trusted by the IAWP Direction Board to be the host of 2020 IAWP Conference. Indonesia itself chose Labuan Bajo as the IAWP venue to support the "Ten New Bali" programme, in which Labuan Bajo is designated as the Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP)" IAWP Committee Chairman said on Sunday (7/11/2021).

According to the IAWP Committee Chairman, the 2021 IAWP is deemed as the first IAWP conference to use the hybrid concept so it could be attended by online and offline platforms. The 58th IAWP was officially opened by the Chief of Indonesian National Police, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

IAWP Committee Chairman said that the most important programme from this conference is the Traning Sessions, which consisted of six keynote speakers such as Minister of Home Affairs, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, and another four are the inspiring female leaders from Indonesia such as Minister of Finance, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, and Deputy Chief of Central Kalimantan Regional Police.

"Besides, there are also 65 speakers who will share their expertise, knowledge, experience, and best practice to enhance and enlighten them", IAWP Committee Chairman said.

The theme brought in this year IAWP conference is "Women at the Centre Stage of Policing", with five subthemes: Women, Peace and Security, Women and Leadership, Police Women and Their Challenges, The Role of Women in Policing, Science, Technology and Policing, and Current Issues on Transnational Crimes.

Indonesian participants consist of representatives from Regional Police and units in Indonesian National Police Headquarter. The representatives also come from various ranks and tasks.

"They are expected to be the future leaders to lead this organisation with satisfying knowledge, experience, and expertise and have a wider network with other law enforcers from across the globe", IAWP Committee Chairman concluded.
