Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. A Lion Air flight, numbered JT-106 and carrying Umrah pilgrims from Surabaya to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, diverted its landing to Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra.
"This decision was made due to a change in the official notification from Sri Lankan authorities," said Danang Mandala Prihantoro, Lion Air's Corporate Communications Strategic, in a statement on Monday evening. The Notice to Airmen , he explained, is a crucial notification disseminated by flight operations personnel, indicating the temporary closure of Sri Lanka's airspace. Danang saidthat the diversion to this alternative airport was a standard operational procedure aimed at ensuring flight safety and security. "The diversion to Kualanamu International Airport was not due to any technical issues with the aircraft," emphasized Danang. Before landing at Kualanamu International Airport, he said that the aircraft had been circling the airspace of Binjai City, North Sumatra, for some time to reduce the aircraft's weight through fuel consumption. After safely landing at Kualanamu International Airport, Danang said the flight to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will resume once the airport in Colombo, Sri Lanka, reopens and is deemed safe for service.
