Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) confirmed that the legal right to restitution for victims of human trafficking will remain intact, even as lawmakers consider introducing a permanent compensation fund under the new Criminal Procedure Code Bill (RUU KUHAP).
“Restitution is based on court decisions and remains part of the judicial process,” said LPSK Deputy Chairperson Antonius Wibowo during a public forum marking Anti-Human Trafficking Day on Thursday (31/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
LPSK recorded 2,373 protection requests from trafficking victims between 2020 and 2024, with most also seeking restitution. In 2024 alone, 439 restitution applications were processed, totaling IDR 7.49 billion.
However, LPSK notes enforcement obstacles as some court rulings deny victim restitution, and asset seizures from perpetrators remain inconsistent.
The government and House of Representatives (DPR) are pushing for revisions to the Human Trafficking Law and RUU KUHAP to ensure restitution enforcement and clarify the role of the permanent fund.
