inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) stated that the mandatory halal certification policy, which will take effect on October 18, 2026, is a crucial opportunity for businesses to improve product competitiveness and strengthen consumer trust.
The Head of BPJPH, Ahmad Haikal Hasan, stated that halal certification not only provides certainty of halal status as a form of protection for the public when consuming and using products, but also provides added value that can boost consumer trust, expand market access, and strengthen business competitiveness.
"Halal is not just an obligation for businesses. Halal is about transparency, traceability, and trustworthiness. It must be understood that halal is an added value related to quality, cleanliness, and health. It serves as a standard that can boost consumer trust and strengthen product competitiveness in the market," explained Ahmad on Wednesday (6/17/2026).
Based on Government Regulation Number 42 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of the Halal Product Guarantee Sector, starting October 18, 2026, various product groups are required to have halal certification. These categories include food and beverage products, slaughtered meat, and slaughtering services.
Furthermore, the halal certification requirement also covers cosmetic products, chemical and genetically engineered products, natural medicines, quasi-medicines, health supplements, raw materials and food additives, and several categories of specific consumer goods.
Ahmad encouraged business owners to take advantage of the available time to prepare for the halal certification process for their products early.
"Don't view halal certification as merely an obligation. See it as a business investment that can boost competitiveness and open up wider market access," he said.
