Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra urged police on Friday (26/9/2025) to accelerate legal proceedings against suspects detained after violent protests in late August.
“My message to the Criminal Investigation Agency is to handle this faster. The quicker, the better, while still maintaining caution and accuracy in investigations, especially before submitting cases to prosecutors,” he said after a coordination meeting with the Indonesian National Police (INP)’s Criminal Investigation Agency in Jakarta, as reported by antaranews.com.
Authorities have detained 997 suspects linked to the riots, including 971 for general criminal offenses and 26 for alleged incitement under the Electronic Information and Transactions Law. So far, only six cases have been completed , with another 15 under review by prosecutors.
Minister Yusril warned that prolonged detention, while legally permitted, creates discomfort for both suspects and their families. He stressed the importance of systematic, swift, and rights-respecting procedures.
