inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Information discussed the use of a new technology with WorldID representatives to handle the concerning issue of deep fakes usage in the internet.

Deep fakes are photos, videos, and audio that are edited or created using artificial intelligence (AI) devices.

“We just held a meeting and discussed the technology of anti-deepfake, while also analyzing the concerning issue," said Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi, on Wednesday (10/9/2024).

However, the results of the meeting with the representatives of a company founded by Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI, has not yet been  announced.

Minister Budi only said that the Indonesian government is open in getting to know the new technology.

The Director General of Public Communication Information, Prabunindya Revta Revolusi, said that the WorldID company from the United States submitted a request to present their new technology.

According to information on the Worldcoin website, the WorldID application allows users to verify existing online accounts and apply verification status. 

Users are also allowed to activate World ID as a login method. By using this open application, only users can access and control the device.

In this advanced technology era, deep fake raises concerns because it can easily produce misinformation and can be used to commit crimes such as bullying, fraud, and spreading fake news.

For example, a deep fake video showing President Joko Widodo giving a speech in Mandarin in October 2023 caused unrest. The government later stated that the video was made using an AI technology.
