Mount Dukono's Eruption Sends Ash Plume 2.7 Kilometers High

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Mount Dukono, located in North Maluku, has erupted, spewing volcanic ash approximately 2.7 kilometers into the sky from its crater on Saturday (24/2/2024).
The eruption, which occurred at 10.50 am, generated a dense ash column moving northward, antaranews.com reported.
Bambang Sugiono, a staff member at the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) Mount Dukono Observation Post, said that an amplitude of 27 millimeters and a duration of 94.66 seconds for the eruption.
PVMBG has issued advisories urging the public to avoid activities such as hiking or approaching the Malupang Warirang Crater of Mount Dukono within a three-kilometer radius. Residents are advised to keep masks available to protect themselves from respiratory hazards caused by volcanic ash.
Mount Dukono, classified as level II or "vigilant," stands at an elevation of 1,335 meters above sea level, with the nearest settlements situated 11 kilometers from its summit. Positioned approximately 14 kilometers southwest of Tobelo City, Mount Dukono is situated in the densely populated region of North Halmahera.
The volcano's consistent eruptive activity is a regular occurrence for local residents, given its extensive history of eruptions.
