Inp.polri.go.id - Lumajang. Mount Semeru, located on the border of Lumajang and Malang in East Java, erupted again at 6.49 am on on Sunday (11/8/2024),, with an ash column rising 600 meters above the summit, approximately 4,276 meters above sea level (asl).
The volcanic ash column was observed as white to gray with moderate to thick intensity drifting northward. The eruption was recorded on seismographs with a maximum amplitude of 22 mm and lasted 120 seconds, according to Yadi Yuliandi, an observer from the Mount Semeru Monitoring Post.
Prior to this, Mount Semeru experienced three other eruptions on the same day.. The volcano's alert status remains at Level II or "Waspada" (Alert).
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) advised the public to avoid activities within 8 km southeast of the summit along the Besuk Kobokan River and to stay clear of areas within 500 meters of riverbanks due to potential hazards from hot clouds and lava flows.
In addition, activities are prohibited within a 3 km radius from the summit to avoid risks from volcanic debris.
