inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Eddy Soeparno in his keynote speech at the annual meeting of the Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) said that Indonesia is ready to take off in developing a new economic model, the carbon economy.
"With natural resources such as forests, mangroves and peat as well as the development of new energy sources in the future, Indonesia has the opportunity to reap new income for the country from carbon trading, developing low carbon businesses, while strengthening our commitment to continuing the national decarbonization program," said Eddy in his statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antaranews on Thursday (5/22/2025).
He said the carbon economy is a new economic pillar that has additional benefits, namely reducing carbon emissions. He noted that this way, it feels like shooting two targets with one bullet.
Eddy also said that types of low-carbon business development such as hydrogen, ammonia and CCS have a very broad positive economic impact on Indonesia.
"In terms of CCS development, for example, we will gain benefits in the form of large investments, technology transfer, labor absorption and the ability to absorb carbon both from within and outside the country," he said.
He said that Indonesia is a country with the largest carbon storage capacity in the Asian region, so countries that need carbon storage such as Japan, Korea, Singapore and others are very interested in investing in the CCS sector in Indonesia.
Eddy believes that the potential of the carbon economy in Indonesia, when maximized, will be one of the significant sources of state revenue in the future.
He also gave his commitment to facilitate and accelerate the development of low carbon business as soon as possible
