inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) emphasized the importance of intensive supervision of educational institutions, particularly Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), to prevent deviations and sexual violence.
MUI Vice Chairman Cholil Nafis stated that preventive measures need to be strengthened through a stricter and more structured oversight system.
"We are actually asking for this to be followed up as a preventive measure, how to supervise educational institutions to intensify the implementation of good education and to guard against deviations," said Cholil on Monday (5/4/2026).
This statement was made in response to the alleged sexual violence case at the Ndolo Kusumo Islamic Boarding School in Pati Regency, Central Java.
The MUI emphasized that every violation must be dealt with firmly according to the law to maintain public trust and prevent vigilante action.
In addition to law enforcement, he emphasized the importance of strengthening oversight through relevant institutions, including the Majelis Masyayikh (Islamic Council) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The MUI also called on the public to play an active role in monitoring the educational environment and reporting any indications of deviation.
Meanwhile, Basnang Said, Director of the Islamic Boarding School at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, emphasized that the perpetrator must be firmly prosecuted. "We do not tolerate any act of sexual violence, especially in religious educational institutions," he said.
As a first step, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has temporarily suspended registration of new students at the Islamic boarding school to support law enforcement.
