The Badung Sub-regional Police in Bal have released the official chronology of a mass illness case at Clandestino Hostel in Canggu, where six foreign tourists suffered acute diarrhea and one, a 25-year-old Chinese citizen identified as Deqingzhuoga, died on 2 September 2025.

“Death was strongly suspected to be caused by gastrointestinal irritation leading to diarrhea, dehydration, and electrolyte loss. There is no indication of poisoning or violence,” Badung Police spokesperson Assistant First Inspector Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti said on Friday (21/11/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com. 

Laboratory tests found no pesticide, narcotics, cyanide, arsenic, other toxic chemicals, or methanol in the victim’s vomit. An autopsy showed gastric bleeding, widened blood vessels, and signs consistent with severe gastrointestinal illness.

Deqingzhuoga reportedly declined medical treatment over concerns about costs and was given only basic medication from a clinic before being found dead in his room. 

Six other travelers from China, Germany, the Philippines, and Saudi Arabia were hospitalized with similar symptoms. Police continue investigating but state no criminal act has been indicated.
