Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police have uncovered a major illegal trade of imported second-hand clothing, seizing 439 bales of apparel suspected to originate from South Korea, China, and Japan, valued at approximately Rp 4.2 billion (around US$260,000).
The crackdown was carried out by the Special Crime Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police in two operations in East Jakarta and Bekasi between11 and 16 November 2025.
“We will not give room for actors who violate regulations and disrupt a healthy investment climate,” said Metro Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto on Friday (21/11/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
He said that the items were distributed in several areas of Jakarta through illegal thrifting operations.
The police have questioned 12 people, including an expedition owner and multiple truck drivers transporting the goods. Confiscated evidence includes the clothing bales, three Colt Diesel trucks, two Fuso units, three pickup vehicles, and a cellphone.
Authorities has declared that illegal used clothing imports undermine domestic industry and violate trade restrictions.
