Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan reassured the public on Tuesday (7/4/2026) that Indonesia’s food supply remains secure, despite severe geopolitical tensions doubling international shipping times and inflating distribution costs.
"While sea transportation cycles have extended from 20 days to over 60, and raw materials like plastics have surged, I guarantee our national food stocks are safe," said Zulkifli Hasan during a press briefing, as reported by antaranews.com.
The Minister acknowledged that rising energy costs and an 80 percent spike in plastic prices have pressured local packaging and logistics. However, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed a record-breaking national rice reserve of 4.6 million tons as of 7 April 2026. This historic surplus is projected to meet domestic demand for the next 11 months, providing a critical buffer against global market volatility and potential climate risks.
The government continues to prioritize food self-sufficiency and downstream industries to insulate the domestic market from external shocks. Collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Trade and agricultural agencies aim to stabilize prices and ensure that essential commodities remain accessible across all regions.
