Navy Sergeant Faces Death Penalty for Alleged Civilian Murder

Rear Admiral Syufenri, Commander of Naval Base II in Padang, West Sumatra, disclosed on Tuesday (2/4/2024) that Navy Second Sergeant Adan Aryan Marsal faces the death penalty or life imprisonment for allegedly killing a civilian in Sawahlunto in late December 2022. He is suspected of the premeditated murder of Iwan Sutrisman Telaumbanua, a non-commissioned Navy soldier student applicant, on 24 December 2022. Sergeant Adan committed the murder with his accomplice Muhammad Alfin Adrian, a civilian, in Talawi sub-district, as reported by antaranews.com. Colonel Wishnu Ardiansyah, Commander of Nias Naval Base, said that Iwan's parents reported their missing son on March 25, 2024. According to the reports, Iwan went missing on 22 December 2022, after leaving for Padang on 16 December 2022, with Sergeant Adan, stationed at Nias Naval Base. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder and disappearance. The Navy will proceed with Sergeant Adan's legal process, while the Sawahlunto District police will investigate the case of Muhammad Alfin Andrian. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
