Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. FIFA has imposed sanctions on Persija Jakarta and four other Indonesian clubs, instituting a three-period transfer embargo.
The affected clubs include Persikab Kabupaten Bandung, Persiraja Banda Aceh, SADA Sumut FC, and Persiwa Wamena, as reported by antaranews.com on Tuesday (2/4/2024).
Each club faces a different penalty period, with Persija and Persiraja sanctioned since 26 January 2024, while Persikab and SADA began penalties on 26 February 2024. Persiwa started its penalty on 12 May2022, with no specified end date, following its merger with Bina Putra.
FIFA's statement did not detail the reasons for the sanctions. However, it cited FIFA's Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players and Disciplinary Code, which indicate embargoes can result from overdue payments, contract terminations without clear reasons, or failure to pay relevant amounts promptly.
The transfer embargo legally bars clubs from registering new players after recruitment. While clubs still have recruitment rights, newly signed players cannot be registered with the national football association, rendering them ineligible to play.
Persija Jakarta faced reports to FIFA by Marko Simic over disrupted salary payments in 2022. In 2023, FIFA ruled in Simic's favor, ordering Persija to pay Rp25 billion. Despite this, Simic returned to Persija in June 2023, signing a two-year contract, sparking speculation but no confirmation of a resolution to their dispute.
