Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Social media posts claiming that the Indonesian government will impose taxes on residential drilled water wells equivalent to regional water utility (PDAM) rates are false.

According to a fact-check report by Liputan6.com on Wednesday (22/7/2026), no official plans exist to tax household water wells. Under Article 1 Paragraph 33 of the Regional Tax and Retribution Law, groundwater extraction taxes apply exclusively to industrial, business, and commercial uses, explicitly excluding daily household needs.

The viral posts also featured a modified artificial intelligence (AI) image of Budi Setiyadi, a former Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation from 2017 to 2022.
