Inp.polri.go.id - Badung. The I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Sub-Regional Police are implementing a special security plan to handle the expected surge in passengers during the Christmas and New Year holidays, confirmed Police Superintendent Ida Ayu Wikarniti, Chief of the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Police, on Saturday (16/12/23). Identifying potential challenges, she stated, "The vulnerabilities are twofold, involving both traffic jams and the common occurrence of baggage mix-ups or items left behind." She projected an estimated 1.2 million individuals passing through Ngurah Rai Airport during Christmas 2023, with a further increase expected by year-end, surpassing this figure. Revealing a surge in air travel demand for Christmas and New Year 2024, Ngurah Rai Airport General Manager Handy Heryudhitiawan has disclosed 605 additional flight requests, namely 302 arrivals and 303 departures. This is expected to lead to a substantial increase in passenger density. In efforts to enhance services, the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Sub-Regional Police are establishing an Integrated Service Post in collaboration with Asvec Angkasa Pura, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Air Force Base, Udayana Regional Millitary Command, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders. Additionally, 55 personnel are being prepared for service during the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 period as part of Operation Lilin Agung, aligning with the available personnel at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Sub-Regional Police. "We are currently monitoring existing flights to determine whether schedule adjustments are needed, especially considering the morning flights, which are relatively empty but tend to get crowded around 11 AM. If there are additional morning flights, it would alleviate some issues. However, if congestion occurs at specific times, we will implement traffic engineering to address potential bottlenecks," she concluded. (ar/inp/pr/nm)
