Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Transportation confirmed that there were no fatalities in an incident where a Trigana Air Boeing 737-300 aircraft emitted smoke at Sentani Airport, Jayapura, Papua, on Tuesday (5/11/2024).

“The fire incident involving Trigana Air flight PK YSC at around 11.30 am local time has resulted in no loss of life,” Acting Director-General of Air Transportation Lukman F. Laisa said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

He said that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated and later flown to their destination, Wamena, on a different Trigana Air flight.

“All passengers and crew were transferred to Wamena on flight PK YRA,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com..

The aircraft, carrying 121 passengers and eight crew, experienced thick smoke from its right engine after initiating pushback. Passengers, in a panic, opened the emergency exits and evacuated the plane. Sentani Airport officials responded swiftly to assist in the evacuation.

The affected aircraft has been towed to the apron for investigation by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
