Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed  on Tuesay (2/9/2025) that no Indonesian citizens were among the victims of a powerful earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, killing more than 1,200 people.

The 5.9-magnitude tremor, centered near Jalalabad, left thousands injured and destroyed over 8,000 homes, according to the Afghan Red Crescent.

“Up to this point, there have been no reports of Indonesian citizens harmed in the earthquake,” said Judha Nugraha, the Director for the Protection of Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a press briefing reported by antaranews.com.

He added that the Indonesian Embassy in Kabul has been in direct contact with local Indonesian communities to monitor their situation.

There are currently 28 Indonesians living in Afghanistan, mostly in Kabul, working with United Nations agencies and non-profit organizations. The embassy continues to check their condition regularly and has provided an emergency hotline at +93-797-333-444 for those seeking assistance.
