Inp.polri.go.id – Papua. Papua Regional Police regrets the riot during funeral procession of Lukas Enembe from Sentani to Central Koya, Jayapura City.
The Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri says some of those incidents occurred when the infamous ex-government remains was escorted to his house in Central Koya.
“The incident mainly occurred in several area such as in front of Sentani Evangelical High School of Theology and several other regions,” says Papua Regional Police Chief on Thursday (12/29/2023).
Mathius adds that his party reported there are 14 wounded victims during the funeral procession of Lukas Enembe, including the acting Governor of Papua Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun.
“On the other hand, there is a car who got burned down, along with five vehicles suffering major damage, and three building and around 25 houses also suffer damages,” adds the police chief.
Currently, officials are still assessing the material losses of the incident, while the injured acting Governor condition reportedly has gone better although he has to flew to Jakarta for further medical attention.
Responding to the clash, Mathius says that he regrets the riot as it should be the moment to remember about showing care to others.
“Although several of our security members are injured, I emphasized that we are still committed to carry out our security duties until the funeral procession is completed and people could safely go back to their home,” conclude Mathius.
