"We can confirm that among the 7 victims, 2 who casualties were civilians and not police officers. Our investigative efforts are diligently underway to uncover the truth behind this incident," stated Police Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, the Head of Public Relations of Papua Regional Police, on Tuesday (29/8/23). He further explained that during the incident, two individuals from Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua Mountains, were killed in an attack by unidentified individuals (OTK). The incident also resulted in the evacuation of five individuals with the initials OB (45), JM (49), JFB (21), AL (29), and R (56) to Boven Digoel Regency after sustaining injuries. Sebby Sambom claimed that the attack was carried out by the TNPB-OPM. However, in his statements, Sambom alleged that the two individuals who lost their lives were police officers. He asserted that the attack aimed to drive foreign companies and settlers out of Papua. Amidst these contrasting statements, the police chief underscored the continued thoroughness of their inquiry into the incident.
