Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The National Commission on Human Rights Representative in Papua call on to  Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhri and local authorities to take action against the perpetrators responsible for the murder and sexual violence that led to the tragic deaths of two women in the Dekai District of Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan, last week. Frits Ramandey, the Head of the Rights Commission Representatives in Papua Representative, said on Thursday (19/10/2023) that his office will continue to monitor the cases involving the two victims, antaranews.com reported. He highlighted the urgent need for the Yahukimo Regency to improve the management of internally displaced persons and provide immediate attention to their basic needs, including suitable temporary shelters for those displaced by the ongoing conflict. In a strong-worded statement, Ramandey urged the Armed Criminal Groups (KKB) to cease violence and refrain from targeting innocent civilians, particularly women, as victims or objects of violence. The victims, identified by their initials IS and AK, were part of a group of internally displaced persons who had been forced from their homes due to gunfire exchange between the security authorities and and the KKB in the Dekai District on August 21, 2023. Ramandey highlighted the alarming rise in cases of violence in the Yahukimo Regency area throughout 2023. These cases include the murder of two Toraja residents on April 30, 2023, and a deadly exchange of fire between the security authorities and KKB resulting in five casualties in Kali Braza, Dekai District on September 14, 2023.. "We urge armed criminal groups not to engage in violence and not to target ordinary civilians, especially women, as victims or objects of violence," he stated. (ar/inp/pr/nm)
