inp.polri.go.id – Anticipating disturbances in the security and social order ahead of the decision on the bill for the establishment of a New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Papua Province on June 30, 2022, the Papuan Regional Police has alerted thousands of personnel.
Papuan Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri said the personnel involved will be around 1,300, both from assisted Under Operation Control (BKO) unit and from Papua Police itself.
"The Regional Police have 800 personnel, while 500 personnel are from the BKO Mobile Brigade Nusantara units," said the Papuan Police Chief, Monday (27/6) afternoon.
He asked all parties to accept whatever the decision that will be made in the trial of the new DOB Bill in Jakarta later.
“Whatever the decision, we have to accept it,” stressed the Chief of Papua Police. He hoped that the people will not be provoked with provocative social media content regarding the bill.
"I make sure it's safe. People don't need to worry. Do your activities as usual, we will guarantee the public security," he reassured the people.
It is reported that Commission II of the DPR RI plans to ratify three Draft Laws (RUU) on the New Autonomous Region (DOB) of Papua on Thursday (30/6).
The three bills related to the expansion of Papua are the Bill on the Province of South Papua, the Bill on the Province of Central Papua, and the Bill on the Province of Papua Mountains.
The bill states that the Province of South Papua (Ha Anim) will make Merauke the capital, then the capital of the Province of Central Papua (Meepago) will be in Timika, and the capital of the Province of Papua Mountains (Lapago) will be Wamena.
