Inp.polri.go.id – Manokwari. Manokwari Sub-regional Police have arrested six online prostitutes of MiChat with the initials of M (43), N (23), EO (28), K (27), AP (22), and SJ (18).
The vice police chief of Manokwari, Commissioner Agustina Sineri says the Criminal Investigation Unit have arrested the six suspects in two different hotels during their raid on Monday at 00:00.
“From the six suspects, five of them are the online prostitutes while the other one is the customer,” she said quoted from Antaranews, Monday (9/25/2023).
She explained that police have initially arrest the first three suspect, M, N, and EO, on their raid. Then, the police raid another hotel and arrest K, AP and with SJ as the customer.
Other than the suspects, police also confiscated several evidences of a handphone, wallet, condom, and a cash of IDR 4.7 million.
“Suspects will be charged with Article 296 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 45 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 27 paragraph (1) of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning ITE,” said Siyeri.
In her statement, she explained that police committed to eradicate any online prostitution practice which grows concerning as most of the customers are the youth Manokwari.
She then pledges there would be more raid on hotels and lodgings in actions against online prostitutions.
“We urge the public to be wiser in using any available applications. Parents must also monitor the use of handphone of their children,” she implores.
On the other hand, the head Criminal Investigation Unit of Manokwari Police, Police Commissioner Adjutant Nirwan Fakaubun explains that the prostitution has been running for two months at the two hotels.
Bearing this knowledge, police will also question the hotel management of the reason behind their service to the online prostitution.
Fakaubun also reveals the five prostitutes are from North Sulawesi and West Java, which bears the question of why in Manokwari.
He also implores active community role in preventing the online prostitution as Manokwari Police have already uncovered three similar cases.
