inp.polri.go.id - Kefamenanu. The North Central Timor (TTU) Sub-regional Police successfully uncovered a case of alleged counterfeit money, arresting a suspect identified as YHS on Wednesday (1/21/2026).
The case was uncovered following public reports of suspicious transactions involving counterfeit money at several kiosks and shops in the BTN Kefamenanu area. Following up on these reports, police conducted an intensive investigation and ultimately apprehended the perpetrator.
During a search of the suspect's residence, officers found and confiscated several pieces of evidence, including eight counterfeit IDR 100,000 bills, damaged counterfeit printed paper, a printer, paper scissors, and sheets of HVS paper suspected of being used in the counterfeiting process.
TTU Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Eliana Papote, emphasized that this disclosure demonstrates police's commitment to eradicating crimes that harm the public and the state.
"From the investigation and statements from the local merchants, it was discovered that the suspect had used the counterfeit money for transactions at several kiosks and shops. This is very detrimental to the public, so we acted quickly to stop its circulation," explained Eliana Papote, Thursday (1/22/2026).
Eliana explained that based on the initial investigation, the suspect's motive for counterfeiting was to meet financial needs. The modus operandi was quite simple: printing counterfeit money using a home printer.
"The method was to print counterfeit money using a printer, then use it for shopping. We have now identified the suspect and detained him for further legal proceedings," she added.
For his actions, suspect YHS faces a maximum prison sentence of 10 years or a fine of up to IDR 5 billion.
The TTU Police Chief also urged the public to be more careful when receiving cash and to immediately report any indication of counterfeit money circulating in their neighborhoods to the police.
