inp.polri.go.id – Lumajang. Mount Semeru eruption caused people to be referred to hospitals in Lumajang regency, East Java, and also caused dozens of people to experience trouble breathing and burning wounds due to hot ash brought by the eruption.
Chief of Lumajang Departmental Police, Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Eka Yekti Hananto Seno, said that Police is now focusing on disaster handling with other related stakeholders. "Temporarily, we have 35 patients. 11 of them have been referred to several hospitals in Lumajang. We are handling this disaster with the related stakeholders such as regency government, Armed Forces, regional disaster management agency, and all hospitals in Lumajang, and also including the volunteers", he explained.
Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Eka Yekti Hananto Seno also mentioned that the Police established several emergency refuge locations in village halls around the mountain. "The Disaster Post and closest refuge area are centred at the Kamar Kajang field, Candipuro. The refuge establishment involved Armed Forces, Police, Regional Disaster Management Agency personnel, and also volunteers. We are also deployed medical workers from Health and Medicine Sections", he explained.
Some personnel of Medicine and Health Agency of Lumajang Departmental Police and the Bhayangkara Hospital are started to being deployed to check people's conditions in the refuge place and disaster post being established. "In the refuge point of Gunung Sawur and Penanggal Village Hall of Candipuro, the Medicine and Health team of Lumajang Departmental Police and the Bhayangkara Hospital are started to work. One by one, refugees are being taken care of and getting their health checked. We did first aid by treating wounds and gave drugs and vitamins", Chief of Lumajang Departmental Police said.
Chief of Lumajang Departmental Police also added that some health equipment is also available in several refuge centres. Previously, the Chief said that dozens of people needed intensive care due to the Semeru eruption. Besides trouble breathing, some people suffered burning wounds due to the hot ash of the eruption.
"After examination by Medicine and Health team, many people are found to suffer trouble breathing due to volcanic ash. Besides, we also found people who suffered burning wounds. The one required intensive care have been evacuated to Pasirian Hospital and Haryoto Regional General Hospital", Chief of Lumajang Departmental Police said.
