Inp.polri.go.id – East Aceh. Investigators of East Aceh Sub-regional Police are currently working on the case of gas poisoning where several people have to be evacuated to the hospital. The poison gas allegedly came from oil and gas company well activities in the area. “Police is investigating the case of people experienced gas poisoning due to Medco EP Malaka Inc. activities in Alur Siwah Well, East Aceh,” says the East Aceh Police Chief, Police Grand Commissioner Adjutant Andy Rahmansyah, on Tuesday (9/26/2023). He explains that his parties have deployed a team to the well site who allegedly spewing the poison gas. The team would check on the procedure done by the oil and gas company. “Teams are investigating the well and now is inspecting the procedure done by the company,” said the police. On the other hand, East Aceh District Environmental Service (DLHK) states that gas poisoning handling is within the authority of provincial government. “Regarding whether the poison gas is sourced from oil and company well, we are not sure yet. We are still waiting for the result test from the provincial government,” says Head of Environmental Permit Supervision and Environmental Protection and Management Division of East Aceh DLHK, Hermansyah. It was reported that there are 29 people of Rayeuk Panton Village fell victim to the gas poisoning. They now are being treated at Zubir Mahmud Hospital. (ad/as/pr/nm)
