inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. Sleman Sub-regional City Police move fast in responding to the abuse against an online motorcycle taxi driver. The incident occurred on Thursday (7/3/2025) in Bantulan, Sidoarum, Godean, Sleman, and triggered fiery reactions from fellow online motorcycle taxi drivers in the province.
On Friday, July 4, 2025, near midnight, a number of Shopee Food drivers came to the home of the alleged perpetrator who allegedly committed violence against their fellow drivers. Realizing the potential for escalation of the situation, the Sleman Sub-regional Police immediately deployed personnel to the location to carry out preventive measures to prevent disturbances to public order.
At around 01.00 am, the mass of online motorcycle taxi drivers continued their action by coming to the Sleman Sub-regional Police Headquarters to ask for an explanation regarding the legal status of the alleged perpetrator. In an effort to maintain transparency and de-escalating the situation, police showed the alleged perpetrator with the initials TTW at 02.00 am to apologize openly in front of representatives of the masses.
The situation had calmed down and the masses began to disperse at around 03.30 am. However, tensions re-emerged when a number of people gathered in the Simpang Tiga Bantulan area. At that location, the group threw hard objects and vandalized a police car belonging to the Godean Sector Police which disturbed order and raising concerns from local residents.
Responding to these dynamics, the Acting Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sleman Sub-regional Police, Police Senior Inspector Wahyu Agha Ari Septyan, conveyed that his party had received an official report and was currently handling the case by prioritizing the principles of professionalism and justice.
"We will carry out the entire legal process with transparency and accountability. We appeal to the public, especially the online motorcycle taxi community, not to take actions that could trigger new conflicts and endanger mutual safety," said Acting Head of Criminal Investigation Unit to reporters at the Sleman Sub-regional Police Headquarters, Saturday, July 5, 2025.
Meanwhile, regarding the destruction of the police car, he said he had pocketed the identities of the perpetrators.
He emphasized that maintaining the security and public order is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation from all elements of society.
Until now, the Sleman Sub-regional Police are still investigating the chronology of the incident, including examining the parties involved in the alleged assault incident and the mass action that occurred afterwards.
