inp.polri.go.id - The Riau Regional Police Marine and Air Directorate apprehended eight illegal Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) from Malaysia in Bagan River, Rokan Hilir Regency on Saturday (2/3/2024).
Senior Superintendent Wahyu Prihatmaka told that police apprehended the eight suspects when crossing the river with a wooden boat by a man initialed S (58).
“The illegal PMI came from Malaysia and will be brought to Bagan Siapiapi and slipping through immigration,” says Wahyu quoted from Antaranews on Monday (2/5/2024).
The ship, called Nelayan Jaya II, was then secured by Rokan Hilir Sub-regional Police Marine and Air Directorate. S and the eight illegal PMI was then moved to Riau Regional Police for further examination.
According to the initial investigation, a Malaysian national initialed BL is an agent who transported the illegal PMI to return to Indonesia.
“These illegal PMIs were asked to pay 2,200 – 2,400 Malaysian Ringgit or around IDR 7 million per individual,” Wahyu said.
Then an agent in Indonesia, with the initials D, made a sailor's book for the illegal PMIs. The sailor's book was then handed over to suspect S when picking up the illegal migrant workers in Malaysia.
The sailor's book was used to trick officials during an inspection by disguising the illegal PMIs as boat crew members.
In his final remarks of the case, Wahyu said S was paid IDR 1 million per individual he carried from D.
