Police Stations Burned in Riots, 17 People Arrested as Suspects in Malang City

inp.polri.go.id - Malang. In a demonstration that turned violent on August 29, 2025, the Malang City Police successfully identified 17 perpetrators of anarchy.

The riot caused 6 police posts to be burned, 16 posts were damaged, and the Malang City Police Headquarters suffered severe damage.

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Malang Sub-regional City Police, Police Assistant Superintendent Muhammad Soleh, explained that the demonstration initially took place in front of the Police Headquarters at around 6:00 PM WIB with demands related to the online motorcycle taxi driver case in Jakarta.

However, two hours later, the crowd began throwing stones, burning tires, and setting off fireworks at officers.

The riot spread to various points in Malang City. The crowd damaged public facilities, attacked police posts, and set fire to vehicles.

A total of 11 police officers suffered minor injuries, while one officer, Brigadier HG, suffered a broken collarbone.

The authorities finally firmly dispersed the crowd at 1:00 AM WIB. A total of 61 people were arrested, consisting of 21 children and 40 adults.

Based on the results of the investigation, 17 people were named as the main suspects with various roles, ranging from the assault of the police headquarters to provoking the crowd.

"Identification was carried out through video recordings, CCTV, and Facial Recognition technology. All evidence strengthens the involvement of the suspects," he said onFriday (26/9/2025).

A number of pieces of evidence were also secured, including the frame of a burned motorcycle, fireworks casings, cell phones, the perpetrators' clothing, and even the stones and bricks used in the attack.

Furthermore, he also emphasized that the legal process against the perpetrators would be transparent. He emphasized that this law enforcement is not only repressive, but also a preventative measure to prevent similar riots from recurring.
