inp.polri.go.id - Demak. The Criminal Investigation Unit of Demak Sub-regional Police managed to arrest four people who are related as family.

They are a syndicate of counterfeit money makers and distributors in the Central Java region. From the hands of the perpetrators, the police secured thousands of IDR 100,000 fake notes ready for distribution.

The Vice Chief of the Demak Sub-regional Police, Police Senior Inspector Hendrie Suryo Liquisasono, explained that the disclosure of this case began with a public report regarding the alleged circulation of counterfeit money.

An intensive investigation carried out by the Mobile Investigation team in arresting three suspects who are a mother and her children, namely R (47), RA (24), and BY (20), residents of East Ungaran District, Semarang Regency.

"The three were arrested while transacting using counterfeit money at Gajah Market, Gajah District, and the Kebonagung District area," said Hendrie on Friday (9/26/2025).

On this occasion, he revealed that from the development of the case, the police then arrested BR (31), a resident of Godong District, Grobogan Regency, who is known as the main producer.

BR is a repeat offender in a similar case and was arrested while producing counterfeit money at his residence in Boyolali Regency.

"The perpetrators have been carrying out their actions for five months by spending counterfeit money of around IDR 500,000 to IDR 800,000 per day. A total of around IDR 5 million in counterfeit money has been circulated, while the profits were obtained from genuine money in change," he explained.

For their actions, the four suspects were charged under Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp. 50 billion.
