inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Criminal Investigation Unit of Situbondo Sub-regional Police, East Java, began processing the crime scene after the East Java Regional Police's Bomb Squad (Gegana) team cleared the area of a firecracker explosion that injured six people and killed one.

On Wednesday (2/18/2026), at approximately 12:00 PM, the house belonging to Kulsum (60), a resident of Mimbo Hamlet, Sumberanyar Village, Banyuputih District, Situbondo, collapsed after a massive explosion suspected to have originated from firecracker dust stored inside her home.

"Currently, the Situbondo Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit Identification Team, along with the East Java Regional Police Identification Team and Forensic Laboratory, are processing the crime scene," said Situbondo Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Bayu Anuwar Sidiqie, Thursday (2/19/2026).

Meanwhile, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Situbondo Sub-regional Police, Police Senior Inspector Agung Hartawan, admitted that the identification team was only able to conduct a crime scene investigation at the location of the firecracker explosion after the East Java Regional Police's Bomb Squad (Gegana) had sterilized the scene.

"Yes, we have just begun the crime scene investigation at the explosion location," he said.

The explosion, strongly suspected to be caused by the gunpowder for the firecracker, resulted in seven people suffering burns and broken bones, and another victim, Supriyadi (50), died after being crushed by the rubble of a collapsed house.

The other six victims—Samsul (22), Riko (25), Faiz (20), Fino (25), and Ibu Kulsum (60)—were taken to Asembagus Regional Hospital. Abdurrahman (15) was referred to Dr. Abdoer Rahem Regional Hospital, Situbondo, due to severe burns covering 90 percent of his body.
