Inp.polri.go.id – Puncak Jaya. The Puncak Jaya Sub-regional Police investigates the burning of Al-Amaliah Mosque in Ilu District, Puncak Jaya Regency, Central Papua Province. It was reported that the mosque was burned on Saturday around 05.00 am. Papua Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo confirms that the investigators are still probing the case to reveal its truth. The case first caught the attention of the police after the mosque administrator reported the fire to the police. After receiving the report, police immediately went to the location by vehicle as they have to trek the road for 1.5 hours, Upon arriving, locals have already tried to extinguish the fire as best as they can. Later on, police found a bottle of liquor around the mosque vicinity. “The liquor was found near the place of ablution and we saw footprints on the gate of the mosque,” says the PR Chief on Saturday (12/30/2023). In his statement, Benny states that police have asked several witnesses at the location. However, it is not clear yet on how many witnesses have been examined due to difficulties in communication tech in Ilu. “We are still awaiting the report from Illu regarding the initial examination of the case,” concluded Benny.
