inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Commission for the Acceleration of the Indonesian National Police (INP) Reform has submitted recommendations to President Prabowo Subianto. The recommendations are presented in a 3,000-page book.
The commission member Yusril Ihza Mahendra explained that one of the points in the recommendations is that there will be no police ministry or a police institution under a ministry. This means that the police institution remains directly subordinate to the president.
"The position of INP remains as it is now, directly subordinate to the president, and no security ministry or police ministry will be established. The police will remain directly subordinate to the president," he said on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
He stated that the recommendations also discuss strengthening the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), whose authority will be expanded through binding decisions.
Coordinating Minister Yusril stated that the expansion of the Chief of Police's authority will impact the revision of the Police Law. The government will immediately coordinate with the House of Representatives (DPR).
"Our job is to draft it, which later will be submitted to the House of Representatives (DPR) as an amendment to the Police Law. Currently, several articles, particularly those related to Kompolnas and the placement of police officers outside of police duties, will be further clarified in the law," he said.
