inp.polri.go.id - South Tapanuli. Flooding has again hit several areas in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra. In response to this situation, the North Sumatra Regional Police, through the K-9 Wildlife Unit, immediately shifted their priorities in the field, prioritizing humanitarian aid and evacuation.

Initially, the K9 units were deployed to accompany the SAR (Search and Rescue) Command Center (BKO SAR) to bolster the search operations.

However, as flood conditions returned, the joint team immediately adjusted their steps by focusing on helping the community in Hapesong Baru Village, Batang Toru District, on Saturday (1/3/25).

The K9 Unit then immediately coordinated with local village governments and moved to evacuate the people, especially in areas affected by floodwaters and with limited access.

The Head of Public Relations for the North Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Superintendent  Ferry Walintukan, stated that the adjustment in duties was a form of police's rapid response to the needs of the community on the ground.

"Police personnel were initially carrying out search and rescue (SAR) assistance duties. However, when flooding returned, their priority was immediately shifted to assisting and evacuating the people. This shows the responsiveness of our personnel in prioritizing public safety," said Ferry Walintukan.

Ferry emphasized that despite the renewed flooding, the situation remains generally under control, thanks to cross-sector coordination and the preparedness of personnel on the ground.

The North Sumatra Regional Police confirmed that they will continue to monitor developments and are ready to provide further support as needed, while urging the public to remain calm and follow officers' instructions for the safety of all.
