"I have ordered the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit, do not hesitate," said the Police Chief on Wednesday (January 21, 2026).
He explained that officers can take firm and measured action against motor vehicle theft perpetrators who endanger officers and the public while committing motor vehicle theft.
Chief Luthfie reminded the perpetrators to refrain from motor vehicle thefts that disturb and harm the public.
"To the motor vehicle theft perpetrators who endanger the safety of officers and the public, we will not hold back and will take firm action. So, stop your actions, or we will stop you," he warned.
During the Evidence Return Bazaar, the Surabaya Sub-regional City Police returned hundreds of pieces of evidence, including confiscated motor vehicles from a number of cases, including motor vehicle thefts and traffic enforcement, to their owners.
Of the 1,050 vehicles seized, 107 were the latest seizures, currently undergoing identification from early 2025 to January 2026.
Although some vehicles suffered damage to their chassis and engine numbers due to the perpetrators' actions, his team is committed to continuing to track down their original owners.
Regarding the vehicle recovery procedure, he guaranteed full transparency and assured that no costs would be charged to the victims.
