inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Police have uncovered a practice of adulterated sugar that does not meet Indonesian National Standards (SNI) standards in Banyumas, Central Java. More than 1,000 sacks of sugar were seized as evidence.
The discovery was made on Tuesday (7/8/2025) afternoon in Banyumas Regency. The case involved an alleged consumer protection crime involving the production of refined sugar mixtures and the use of other companies' brands.
One person, MS (52), a resident of Karangtengah, Cilongok, Banyumas Regency, was arrested. He is being charged under Article 113 in conjunction with Article 57 paragraph (2) of Law No. 7 of 2014 concerning Trade and/or Article 62 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 8 paragraph (1) letter (a) and/or Article 9 paragraph (1) letter a of Law No. 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, for the crime of trading goods domestically that do not meet SNI standards.
The evidence in the case included 855 sacks of Raja Gula packaged sugar, totaling 42,750 kg, and 587 sacks of refined sugar, totaling 29,350 kg. Other items included three mixers, digital scales, sack sewing equipment, sacks, plastic bags, and other items.
When asked to confirm the disclosure of the illegal practices, the Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the Central Java Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Arif Budiman, confirmed the disclosure.
