inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Police have uncovered an illegal firearms assembly network in Sumedang, West Java which sold their illegal products through social media.

The Director of Criminal Investigation at the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police, Senior Superintendent Iman Imannudin, explained that the suspects sold the assembled firearms for millions of rupiah.

"The perpetrators sold them on e-commerce platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Tokopedia, and TikTok. They offered to sell firearms to the public illegally," he explained at a press conference on Tuesday (1/20/2026).

Iman said the suspects initially marketed gun holsters on e-commerce platforms. However, they assembled the firearms when orders came in.

"So, initially, the sellers offered the weapon parts on e-commerce platforms. For example, the holsters. When they were interested in purchasing the firearms, they communicated directly, not through social media," he explained.

The director explained that the suspects had been learning to assemble weapons since 2018, but only started selling them in 2024. Based on the investigation, 50 assembled weapons had been sold outside Java.

"Their profits from each weapon ranged from 2 to 5 million rupiah. The profits they earned varied," he said.

He added that the suspects offered pre-order services for those wishing to order weapons. Suspects RR, IMR, RAR, JS, and SAA were also affiliated with a specific network.

"Their sales system involved pre-ordering, while others involved buying ready-to-use or ready-to-use weapons. There were two methods," he explained.

The suspects were charged under Article 306 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 1 of 2023, the Criminal Code, and/or Article 1 Paragraph (1) of Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
