inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the 2nd ASEAN Summit and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to strengthen trade partnerships in the region.

This is the second meeting between Southeast Asian and Gulf countries after the first meeting took place in 2023 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, under Indonesia's Chairmanship of ASEAN.

"This summit is rooted in the foundations that have been built since the first summit in Riyadh in 2023. The presence of the leaders today reflects a shared commitment to strengthening strong ties," said Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as Chair of the ASEAN-GCC Summit, quoted from Antaranews in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/27/2025).

The 2nd ASEAN Summit is part of a series of events for the 46th ASEAN Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Tuesday.

In particular, PM Anwar welcomed the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sarra who also served as co-chair of the meeting.

Furthermore, the Malaysian PM underlined the importance of economic ties between the two regions as the GCC is ASEAN's seventh largest trading partner in 2023, with a value of US$130.7 billion.

According to PM Anwar, the GCC has undergone a major transformation into a promising modern economic power with advances in technology.

Therefore, the ASEAN-GCC partnership is believed to play a key role in fostering collaboration between the regions, strengthening resilience, and ensuring sustainable prosperity.

"I hope that this meeting will have a meaningful exchange of views and pave the way for concrete initiatives in our growing and sustainable partnership," said PM Anwar.
