inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has asked National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Attorney General ST Burhanuddin to immediately take action against rice adulterators who have been selling regular rice as premium rice.
President Prabowo stated that he received reports that entrepreneurs were purchasing harvested dry unhusked rice (GKP) from farmers for IDR 6,500 per kilogram, the minimum purchase price set by the government, but then selling it under the premium label, which is above the highest retail price (HET).
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is fraud, this is a crime. I ask the Attorney General (ST Burhanuddin) and the Indonesian National Police Chief (General Listyo Sigit Prabowo) to investigate and prosecute this crime. I have received reports that the losses suffered by the Indonesian economy reached IDR 100 trillion annually (due to adulterated premium rice)," said President Prabowo on Monday (7/21/2025).
He then expressed his anger at the state's desperate efforts to increase state revenue through taxes, while on the other hand, there were four to five businessmen who annually enjoyed profits from defrauding the people of up to hundreds of trillions of rupiah per year.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I'm saying this at this important event, because there are many regents, many governors, and thousands of village heads present. I consider these (rice adulteration, ed.) traitors to the nation and the people. This is an attempt to keep Indonesia weak and impoverished. I won't accept it!" said President Prabowo.
He then again ordered INP Chief and the Attorney General to thoroughly investigate the adulterated premium rice case.
"I order the INP Chief and the Attorney General to investigate and take action! If they return the 100 trillion, fine. If not, we will confiscate those despicable rice mills," President Prabowo firmly stated.
