inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto will prioritize Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) scholarships for medical schools to address the shortage of general practitioners and specialists in Indonesia.

He explained that Indonesia has a medical personnel shortage of more than 140,000 doctors.

"We know that we have a shortage of general practitioners; we have a huge shortage. If I'm not mistaken, we have a shortage of over 140,000 doctors. We also have a shortage of specialists; a shortage of thousands of specialists. This is what we are paying attention to now," said President Prabowo on Monday (10/20/2025).

According to him, the governments of various countries he visited also complained about the same problem: a shortage of doctors.

However, developed countries, such as the UK, have been able to overcome this problem because they can afford high salaries for doctors from various countries.

"The UK has a huge shortage of doctors. So, they recruit doctors from everywhere. Germany, Western Europe, America, and nurses are recruited by them and they can afford very high salaries," said President Prabowo.

President Prabowo believes that education policies must be adjusted to meet needs, one way of doing this is by increasing the number of medical students.

Thus, he requested that LPDP scholarship recipients be prioritized for medical schools.
