Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo attended the 2024 President’s Cup, highlighting the benefits of numerous football competitions for improving team performance.

“The more competitions, the better. Whether it's league competitions, League 1, League 2, SSB competitions, amateur competitions, FIFA, AFC, AFF – the more a team participates, the better it is,” he said after watching the opening match of the President’s Cup 2024,  on Friday (19/7/2024)..

President Jokowi noted that various football competitions, from local School Football (SSB) competitions to national leagues like League 1 and League 2, and international tournaments such as AFC and FIFA, benefit teams greatly.

He praised the organization of these competitions, especially the President’s Cup, which has been held since 2015 during his administration.

“Everything is running well, and with the addition of the President’s Cup, there are even more competitions, which is beneficial,” he added.

President Jokowi also said that the President’s Cup serves as a warm-up tournament for clubs ahead of the 2024/2025 League 1 season starting on August 9, 2024. He hoped that the tournament would continue under the next administration led by President-elect Prabowo Subianto.

President Jokowi watched the opening match between Persib Bandung and PSM Makassar at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung. Persib Bandung defeated PSM Makassar 2-0, with goals from Ciro Alves in the 14th minute and an own goal by Nermin Haljeta in the 41st minute.
