Joint Brimob and Damai Cartenz Team Arrives in Mulia After Riots

Inp.polri.go.id - Mimika.  A combined team from Papua Regional Police's Mobile Brigade (Brimob) and the Damai Cartenz Task Force arrived in Mulia, the capital of Puncak Jaya regency, Central Papua, on Thursday to help restore security in the area.

“Indeed, the joint forces have arrived in Mulia and immediately joined the personnel of the Puncak Jaya Police,” said Puncak Jaya Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendentr Kuswara, on Friday (19/7/2024).

He explained that the team sent from Timika has now merged with the local police officers to swiftly restore security in the region.

“Overall, the security situation is relatively stable, and the members remain on alert,” he said.

However, economic activities have not yet returned to normal as some residents are still afraid to go about their daily lives.

Riots broke out in Mulia, Puncak Jaya regency, after two residents were reported shot dead by security forces on Tuesday night,.

The three deceased from gunshot wounds were identified as SW (33), YW (41), and DW (36).

Chief Kuswara added that the riots resulted in four injuries and one fatality, Abdulah Jaelani (30), who died from sharp object injuries.

Among the injured were Battalion Commander 753/AVT Major Novald Dermawan, hit in the head by a rock, Arief (45) with an arrow wound to the back, Safrudin (44) struck by a rock on the upper left lip, and Surati, or also known as Bude Nina, (53) injured by a sharp object.
